Actress Gabrielle Union is clapping back at haters who say she is too “old” to wear swimsuits. Union has never had an issue showing off her toned physique. Whether in a matching bikini with daughter Kaavia or an infamous 4th of July selfie, the “My Journey to 50” actress rocks her body proudly.

While visiting the “Who What Wear with Hilary Kerr” podcast, the 50 and star made it clear she does not allow internet trolls’ judgment to bother her.

“Somebody said, ‘You’re old enough to be somebody’s grandma, why are you still in—like wearing swimsuits?'” Union told Kerr. “I’m like, ‘First of all, they’re not just swimsuits. They are thongs,” Union said. “I might just wear a swimsuit in the casket.'”

Unapologetically Aging

During the podcast, Union shared her unapologetic views regarding her body, clothing choices, and age.

“[At] 35, they start treating you like you’ve got osteoporosis. You start becoming invisible, and it’s a weird, empty feeling to feel like you’re disappearing in front of your own eyes,” she explained.

Union said it’s easy for women to start adopting societies attitudes around youth and value as they age.

“We need to boldly take up space and boldly claim and acknowledge our own beauty in all that we do instead of waiting. Claim you, whether it’s you fall in love with a younger dude… you love you more than anybody else loves you,” she said.

‘Addicted to Being Chosen’

Unfortunately, Union learned these lessons the hard way. She admitted to being insecure after being turned away from several gigs due to her looks.

“It just robbed me of my confidence, my joy,” she recently said on Netflix’s “Skip Intro” podcast. “I just felt like I was exposed as hideous, and what do you do with that?”

With the help of therapy and reconciliation with her family, she began to gain confidence.

“I don’t think it’s possible to truly love yourself completely when you’re addicted to being chosen,” Union explained. “I can’t be invested in your opinion of me or anyone’s opinion of me. My truth just is.”
