Is it true that blondes have more fun? We say it is.

Going Blonde is a liberating way to have fun with your beauty routine. From bleached blonde eyebrows we’ve seen on Doja Cat to Kelela’s all-blonde debut on Dazed’s Autumn 2022 issue– going blonde is the newest trend to look out for this season.

The trend seamlessly emerged from runway shows back in February and has since, made a huge appearance on faces everywhere. Simply put, going blonde is a sexy way to start fresh, which is why the trend is making such a huge mark on the beauty industry to date.

For this year’s 2022 Dazed issue, Kelela is the blueprint. Setting trends and creating huge impacts on Black queer culture. Her vibe has transcended since her first album release five years ago to a completely new vibe that hones in on personal power and “feeling of expansiveness.”

This feeling of expansiveness is what I’m trying to give my people, and that’s what is at the centre of all this for me.

Kelela’s 2022 Dazed issue highlights the current stage she’s in within her life, and focuses on expansiveness.

“This feeling of expansiveness is what I’m trying to give my people, and that’s what is at the centre of all this for me,” she says to Dazed.

Working To Be In Alignment With Herself

Like most, Kelela has been through many stages in her life and career. One of the stages she’s experienced is the need to release all experiences and people that no longer serve her at this current stage.

“I’m no longer at IMG. I’m no longer with my business manager. And, through the letter, I have been able to be released from my [publishing] contract with Sony. It’s an act of self-care,” she says to Dazed. ” It’s just something that makes me feel more healthy and in alignment with my values. Ultimately I’m working to be in alignment with myself. What that has looked like for me is speaking up to make sure I’m in partnership with Black people.”

Going Blonde Is A Radical Movement

One of the many reasons why the blonde movement is resurfacing is because of its edgy versatility to create your own rules and status quos.

“Bleached brows give a more futuristic effect to the face,” explains makeup artist Diane Kendal to Vogue who paired the erased brows with neutral complexions and hollowed gazes at Jacobs’s request to supply a “gothic element” to the beauty. The thing is, as otherworldly as they can be, bleached brows transcend the runway easier than you might think. From Kendall Jenner’s one-night-only brow makeover for the Met Gala 2022 to Julia Fox’s recent delve into no-brow, graphic-winged-eyes territory, stars are making the case for grabbing a box of bleach and having a go at it,” said Vogue on the emerging trend.
