While some us try to master a single neat braid (sadly, me), sisters Jayonnah and Aiyonnah, ages 10 and 8, are slaying the box-braid and feed-in braid game. The sisters’ aunt posted a video on Twitter of Jayonnah carefully and skillfully doing feed-in braids that left everyone shocked. Shortly after we picked our jaws up from the floor, came a video of Aiyonnah doing box braids. Needless to say, the girls went viral afterwards and its clear to see why.
Jayonna and Aiyonnah’s mother, Ashley, is a Southern California based professional hairstylist. Ashley would make sure her daughters would watch her braid client’s hair so they could pick on it. In an interview with Allure, Ashley shares that her girls saw her braiding so much, they just picked up on it. “Jayonnah started twisting her dolls’ hair at two years old and was braiding very quickly after that,” she tells Allure. By the time Jayonnah turned four (I repeat, four), she could seamlessly do a fishtail braid.
Aiyonnah started braiding when she was five-years-old and got the hang of things very quickly. Their mother notes that the girls got the braiding down all on their own, but she was there to guide them on how to keep the braids smooth, nice and clean. The girls love reading all of the praise they’ve received on social media and have even been recognized while they’re out and about.
