You've maintained a regular hair maintenance routine, and you're excited about growing your natural. However, you noticed some shedding and you can't figure out why.  Be assured that shedding is a normal part of the process, and generally you don't need to be alarmed.  However, if you're losing more hair than you should, then hair breakage might be happening. It is normal to shed between 50 and 100 hairs each day.  One way to prevent shedding with curly hair is to use the right hair products for your curl type.  This ensures that your curls don't dry out and shed excessively.   Regular washings are also necessary because you'll need to eliminate product buildup so that your hair's roots will not be blocked.  Here are additional ways to prevent shedding with natural hair.

Check Your Stress Levels

Another thing you should do is ask yourself if stress is causing the shedding.  Even if you use the best DIY remedies, it won't do you any good unless you address the stress that is at the root. Learn to say no to requests that will overextend your schedule and exhaust you mentally. Take relaxing baths after work and meditate throughout the week. Write out your frustrations in a journal and if necessary, meet with a therapist.

Don't Neglect Those Vitamins

You should take vitamins regularly if you want to reduce hair shedding.  Hair, skin, and nail vitamins are good to have, but there are other ones that are just as effective. These are vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, and zinc.  You can consume them as supplements but you can also eat foods that are high in these vitamins.

Give Your Scalp Some Love

If you're hard on your scalp, shedding can happen.  Massage your scalp with oils regularly and stay away from hairstyles that are too tight.  Getting a deep conditioning treatment also helps your scalp.  Ask your hairstylist for trips and any products she recommends for a healthy scalp. You should also visit your dermatologist if you think there are other medical issues that are causing scalp problems.
