We finally have our first look at the highly anticipated “Young Love” animated series.

The preview of the Max series was released on July 20. The clip features the first few minutes of the show’s first episode and the opening title sequence for the series.

The 2D animated series is based on the Oscar-winning short film “Hair Love.”

The series builds on the story of the Young family featured in the short — including parents Stephen Young and Angela Young, their daughter Zuri Young and her pet cat Rocky.

In his Twitter post about the teaser, the show’s creator, Matthew A. Cherry, shared that “Young Love” is set in Chicago and picks up a few months after the health scare in Hair Love.

The show stars Kid Cudi as Stephen, Issa Rae as Angela, and Brooke Monroe Conaway as Zuri.

According to a description on the Sony Pictures site, the series will follow the family as they juggle their careers, marriage, parenthood and social issues. It will also show how the family works through multi-generational dynamics all while striving to make a better life for themselves.”

Cherry added in his Twitter post that a full trailer for the show will be coming soon.

But the preview clip has already received tons of love from fans looking forward to the new series.

The clip was first previewed at SanDiego Comic-Con on July 18.

“The great thing about animation is that you can tell a story that’s specific but universal,” Cherry told the Comic-Con crowd. “It has themes of being a parent, being a young child trying to make your way through the world, being a grandparent trying to deal with ageism. The packaging is obviously very specific because we’re dealing with a young Black family in Chicago. But the themes are universal.”

Cherry is executive producer and showrunner for the show — along with animation creative Carl Jones.
